spontaneity is overrated

i had a quiet friday. stayed in, went for a bike ride (i bought a bike) did some stretching. saturday i got up, relaxed and then met mike in hongdae so go for delicious greek food and to go to a punk show. 2 of our favourite bands were playing so we were pretty pumped.

this is suck stuff. we love them but for some reason never come in time to see a full set.

this is bblt. it was their cd release party. after the show they were serving drinks in buckets (real classy!) anyways, mike has many pics of her and i, and us together because.. well basically she's my favourite korean girl musician..

so we were enjoying the show when mike's friend alex invites us to stay at a nice place he had rented for the weekend. he originally rented it for his mom but she couldn't use it. we decide to go though we were not feelin so hot. we ended up bailing early (we're such wet blankets!) and caught a bus home, but before we did we went to the east coast (Gangneung) and watched the sunrise. i havn't seen a sunrise in years and it was really pretty. all i had was my cell phone but it took some good pics. alex has a REAL camera and took about a bizzilion pics of mike and i.. maybe we'll get them someday.

i jumped over this fence almost as soon as we got there and i took a little nap on the breakers. the water was so surprisingly calm.

we spent all of yesterday sleeping and eating pizza.

mike is coming and going this week to bring his stuff to my place. i'm storing it for him while he's in thailand. this includes 2 acoustic guitars, an acoustic bass and an amp. basically my apartment looks like a studio. i'm such a poser.

AND i just got confirmation about my trip to thailand. tickets are purchased.

ciao

a few pics

Ok here are some pictures (stolen from mike) from my August vacation in Seoul.

This was in the park at Seoul Forest.

Changgyecheon. A river that runs through the city. It was pretty nice to cool down in it on the hot, hot day.

In a pelican at Myeong-Dong: one of the big shopping areas of Seoul.

A statue outside the river.

Mike took this shot thinking it looked very, "Abbey Road".

At that very moment in time that's how far I was from home. (Standing in Namsan Tower)

There were some deer in Seoul Forest. However, they were fenced in. We were hoping for something similar to Marine Land where you can feed the deer and they chase you around. I was a little disappointed (and slightly relieved).

river.

View of Namsan Tower at night.

Mike and I. A Korean couple insisted on taking our picture for us.

Mike in the pelican!!

I officially booked 2 weeks off in October to go to Thailand. I'm in the process of finding the cheapest ticket right now. I'll be there from the 13th to the 29th.

cheers.

how things be goin

good. things are good. i don't have too much to say in the realm of exciting but here's what i've been up to in the last little while:

working. the new school so far has been pretty great. things have definitely been lower key there compared to the last school i was at. my classes are generally smaller and there are about a third of the teachers. it's kinda nice to have a quieter atmosphere though sometimes i miss having people around who are ready to go out at the drop of a hat. i also miss some of my daegu friends though most of the people i was really close with have left korea for good. i also love the fresh start.

exploring the new neighbourhood. it's definitely a lot nicer than where i was for the last two year. i live right on a river complete with trails for running, biking etc. though lately it's been raining everyday so i havn't been able to enjoy them. i'm also just a few subway stops away from some busier areas of town which is also cool. i LOVE being on the seoul subway line. i'm generally in the city for the weekends hanging out with mike and going to punk/enjoying delicious restaurants/being a tourist.

vacationing. the first week of august our school was closed down. i had plans to go to singapore but i just couldn't make it work. i REALLY wanted to go somewhere and even borrowed 700 bucks from a coworker i had met days before but after crunching numbers it just wasn't feasible. canada cost me a pretty penny so i'll have to make it happen another time. i pretty much stayed in the city the whole week and did a bunch of tourisy seoul things that i usually never have the time to do so it ended up being a pretty great week. any week not working is generally a pretty great week. i have pics which i'll upload later.

planning more vacationing. i have another week scheduled off for the end of october to go to thailand (yes, again.. and yes, it's totally worth it). mike will be headed there for a couple of months come september so this will be my chance to spend some time with him AND stuff as many pineapples and noodles into me as possible. the details haven't fully been worked out yet but i'm hoping to go to a full moon party this time and spend some time at some places i missed out on before. i'm also trying to get an extra week off before that to extend the vacation.

speaking of vacations we have wednesday off as well. i think it's independence day. so everyone will be celebrating korea's liberation from japan. i have no plans yet, but am hoping to buy a bike sometime this week so maybe i'll go for a ride and take it on some sweet jumps.

yeah, that's all i've got. except that i do have a landline phone now and if you didn't receive the mass email with that included email me and i'll let you have it.

later.
