Singapore and Malaysia

So Russ and I finally decided to meet up in Asia and take a little trip together. We decided on Singapore and Malaysia because I've never been and because it would give us a nice mix of city and beaches.

I flew into Singapore and Russ was to be waiting for me at the airport. I couldn't find him anywhere (and seriously, he should stick out like a sore thumb). I guess he got lost between the terminals but we finally met up. My impressions of Singapore is that it is very expensive. It is very organized. It is very, very fun. We went to Chinatown, Little India, Orchard Road (a few times!) and to the Night Safari. All were very cool. One thing I noticed is how authentic the ethnic neighbourhoods feel. When I'm in Toronto, or Seoul and I go to such neighboourhoods I always felt like I was in Toronto or Seoul, but in a place that has a lot of say, Indian food. In Singapore I actually felt like I was walking into tiny Indias and Chinas. It was really neat.

I liked Kuala Lumpur a lot, though we were stuck in a rainstorm for a good chunk of it. That did give Russ and I an opportunity to just chill and sit still instead of feeling pressure to go out and see everything we possibly could.

On Langkawi, I saw this:

The nicest sunset I've ever seen. Langkawi was more relaxed though we did see and do a lot. Russ rented a car and we drove around on the left side (Russ kept calling wrong side) of the road. The highlight for me was hiking up a zillion steps, part way up a mountain to reach 7 Wells. Fresh water from the mountain trickle down into 7 pools which also form a natural waterfall. It was amazing and no one else was there which made it even better. That is, until we saw the monkeys. Russ flipped. After we saw those, we kept spotting them everywhere. Russ was very excited, though they didn't like me.

Here is a view from the cable car ride to the top of the island. It was a little hazy and we were pretty thankful because it was very hot. Though I liked the heat more than Russ. We had constant fights over the a/c.

In KL we did Dr. Fish. I've always seen it around but never got around to doing it. It was really freaky, but after awhile, if you thought of other things and totally ignored what was happening to you, it wasn't so bad.

Our ride! 30 bucks for the day!

The view out of our hotel room.

Me drinking some coconut juice.

Our sustenance for the trip. Tiger Beer. Price comparison. In Singapore: 10-15 dollars. On Langkawi: 35 cents to a dollar.

At an Irish Pub in Singapore.

Now it's just a matter of convincing him to come again.
